Whitby MarketsThe town has a market on Saturday and Tuesday. In the summer there is also an additional Sunday market. All markets are held in Market Square, Church Street. Farmers' Markets are also held in Whitby on Thursday between March and September. Early Closing day: Wednesday January February March April 30th April : Planting of the Penny Hedge at Whitby HarbourThis traditional event has it's origins in the reign of Henry II. Now it's held by a local landowner and is open to all. The event is expected to take place at 9.00. May 24th - 26th May: Treasure Island, Smugglers & Salty Sea DogsThis event is held at Whitby Abbey, offering a range of activities including a musical adaptation of Treasure Island. The event starts at 11.00 and admission costs are: Adult £5.50, Concession £4.50, Child £3.00, Family £14.00 June 7th - 14th June: Whitby FestivalMore information to follow. Please be aware this date is provisional July 26th & 27th July : Whitby Lifeboat DayMore information to follow. Please be aware this date is provisional August 2nd, 3rd & 4th August: Whitby Regatta & CarnivalThe Whitby Regatta offers yacht racing, rowing races and various free forms of entertainment. Programmes are available for £2.00 from retailers in the town. 16th - 22nd August: Whitby Folk WeekThe Whitby Folk Week takes place all over the town. The festival sells out quickly so it is suggest you book tickets. Please visit the Whitby Folk website for more information. September October November 29th & 30th November: Christmas Shopping Weekend & Reindeer TrailWhitby Abbey plays host to a 10% discount shopping extravaganza with a reindeer trail for the children. The event starts at 10.00 and admission prices are: Adult £5.00, Concession £4.00, Child £2.50, Concession £12.50 December Book your stay
